The teaching and research at the Department of Food Economics  and Food Policy is devoted to diverse topics of the food economy. 

A main emphasis is placed on the usage of new technologies in agricultural production in developing countries as well as their impact on the reduction of poverty and to combat hunger.

In addition, the emphasis lies on analyzing preferences of the demand for production factors of agricultural households, especially related to the quality of livestock breeds and the food demand of private households.

Further topics range from supply-oriented problems of the food markets, to the market for agricultural products and structural changes in rural areas worldwide with its consequences on the population.
